Do you need a video solution that is eye-catching, capable of amazing resolution and uniquely fitted for an unusually large space?  You may want a video wall.

Video walls are installed on an engineered surface that, depending on the application, can be a permanent wall structure, floating wall, or even on the floor!

What Are Video Walls?

Video walls are large-scale display systems composed of multiple screens tiled together to create a single, seamless visual experience. These systems are commonly used in control rooms, conference centers, retail environments, entertainment venues, corporate settings used for presentations, digital signage, and real-time monitoring.

Video walls are designed to deliver high-resolution visuals, scalable configurations, and flexible content management.  They can be arranged in different layouts depending on the specific needs of a space.  A traditional video is made up of 55-inch televisions, but there are some larger displays that measure diagonally at 65-inches.  The TVs are typically arranged in either a 4×4 pattern consisting of eight television screens or a 3×3 pattern consisting of nine screens.

A video wall controller is required to manage the content of the screen.  The controller gives users the option to display one unified image across the entire video wall or split the screen to show multiple forms of content.

At Smart Homes and Smart Offices, we offer two primary types of video wall displays: LCD and LED systems.

LCD video walls use multiple liquid crystal display panels with ultra-narrow bezels to minimize the visible lines between screens. They offer high brightness, good color accuracy, and cost-effectiveness, making them ideal for corporate environments, digital signage, and control rooms. However, even with ultra-thin bezels, slight gaps between screens remain visible.

The biggest downside to LCD video walls is the tendency to develop variations in color as the televisions age.  If one screen develops issues or the color goes out, you can’t simply replace the screen.  The color can never be tuned to the exact tone as the remaining screens, so there will always be one screen that presents differently.

LED video walls utilize direct-view LED technology, eliminating bezels entirely for a seamless display. They provide high brightness, excellent color saturation, and scalability for large installations. LED walls are best suited for large venues, outdoor displays, and high-end corporate lobbies where brightness and seamless visuals are essential. However, they tend to be more expensive than LCD options and require precise installation. However, they have come down in price makign them a more attainable option.

Choosing the Best Video Wall Solution for Your Space

When weighing which video wall solution is best for your unique space, consider the following factors:

  • Purpose & Content: Are you displaying high-resolution videos, real-time data, or simple static images? LED is best for dynamic content, while LCD works well for presentations and signage.
  • Viewing Distance: For close-up viewing, LCD is ideal due to its high pixel density. However, for larger spaces, LED provides better visibility from a distance.
  • Ambient Lighting: If the space has high ambient light, LED is preferable due to its superior brightness.
  • Budget & Maintenance: LCD is more budget-friendly, while LED is better in terms of long-term durability.
  • Installation & Space Constraints: LCD and LED require mounting.
